That Saturday night is forever etched in my memory. “I don’t feel great – I’m gonna watch TV for a bit,” he said as we got ready for bed. Minutes later, I heard what I now know was a “death rattle.” He was having a heart attack.

Despite my CPR efforts and the paramedics’ heroic work, David didn’t make it. The moment the ER doctors delivered the news was devastating. Having to tell our 13-year-old minutes later was even worse.

This is our 8th year walking in the Palm Beach Heart Walk in David’s honor to prevent other families from experiencing this heartbreak. Since forming David’s Team, several of our family and friends have faced—and some survived and some didn’t—heart ailments and strokes. We walk to make a difference.
