Inventors Mateo and Jennifer learn the importance of a patent clearance search in Episode 6 of my video series “How An Ordinary Inventor Can Turn Into A Millionaire (The Hero’s Journey)” (which is available ONLY on YouTube)!

Inventing is a lot of work. You have to come up with a great idea, create a prototype, test it out, and then hope that people will actually want to buy it. And even if you do all of that, there’s no guarantee that your product will be successful. In fact, most inventions never make it to market.

One of the reasons why inventions fail is because the inventor didn’t do a patent clearance search. A patent clearance search is when you check to see if there are already patents out there for products that are similar to yours. If there are, then you might not be able to get a patent for your invention, which means you won’t be able to sell it.

What is a Patent?

A patent is a type of intellectual property that gives the inventor the exclusive right to make, use, and sell their invention for a certain period of time. Patents are granted by the government and are intended to encourage innovation by giving inventors a temporary monopoly on their invention.

There are three types of patents: utility patents, design patents, and plant patents. Utility patents are the most common type of patent and cover inventions that are new and useful. Design patents cover the ornamental design of an object, and plant patents cover new plants that have been created through artificial means.

Why You Need a Patent Clearance Search

If you want to get a patent for your invention, you need to do a patent clearance search to make sure that there aren’t already patents out there for similar products. If there are, then you might not be able to get a patent for your invention, which means you won’t be able to sell it.

A patent clearance search is best done with the help of a professional service. It’s also important to note that patents are only granted for products that are new and useful; if your product is not new or useful, then you will not be able to get a patent no matter how well you search.

Any inventor worth their salt knows that getting a patent is essential to the success of their product. But what many inventors don’t realize is that before you can even apply for a patent, you need to do a thorough patent clearance search. A patent clearance search is when you check to see if there are already patents out there for products that are similar to yours. If there are, then you might not be able to get a patent for your invention, which means you won’t be able to sell it.

So don’t skip this crucial step in the process! Work with a patent expert to research and make sure that your product is truly unique before moving forward with the patent application process.
